I have a project today made with one my favorite suites from
new Annual Catalog – the Come Sail Away with the Sailing Home Stamp set, Smooth
Sailing dies and Come Sail Away designer series paper. I love the stamps, dies, designer series
paper, baker’s twine and the metal embellishments that match the theme of the
suite. I have always had a special place in my heart for lighthouse and
nautical stamps - I have a huge stash!!
When we used this set as one of our samples at OnStage – I was doubly
hooked.
I used lots of new techniques and products on this card – I was
so happy to go outside my box a bit… First I wanted to use Shimmer White Paper.
I’ve heard great things about this specialty paper that has a shimmery finish
and works better with watercolor techniques (more on that in a minute..). It also has a shade between whisper white and
very vanilla – an especially nice shade! I also really wanted to use my shimmery
embossing paste. On top of that I tried the “cling wrap” technique – except I
did it with bubble wrap… 3 new things all wrapped in one new card!
First I cut my Shimmery White to 4” x 5 ¼”, then I took just
a left over plastic knife and spread the Shimmery embossing paste right on the
card stock -I wanted to create a LOT of texture on my background. I worked pretty quick because I wanted to
have “fresh” (in other words sticky) embossing paste. I took a left over bubble mailer from Amazon
and I took several drops of reinkers (Balmy Blue, Night of Navy, Basic Grey,
Pool Party, Coastal Cabana and Pacific Point) dropped directly on the
packaging. I took the Shimmery White and placed it directly on the bubble
mailer. If there was a large white spot on the paper, I just dipped it again. I tried to place the darker colors of the
reinkers at the top (Basic Grey, Pacific Point, Night of Navy), and the lighter
colors (Coastal Cabana, Pool Party and Balmy Blue) at the bottom. I tried a few different versions as you can see - with more water or less water. I tried spritzing
both the card base and the packaging, I think each has its own uses and I will make
cards with all of them!
I created the other elements by stamping on crumb cake with
early espresso for the lighthouse, and stamping off once or twice for the
compass on a scrap of Shimmery White, with a full strength stamping for the sentiment. For both the helm and the roping detail, I cut
it out with the coordinating dies and then sponged on early espresso with a
sponge dauber. Finally, I added the fantastic new Night of Navy and Sahara Sand
Baker’s Twine with the new metal embellishments, Sail Away trinket that coordinate
with the suite. I really like how this turned out and I can not wait to try
this technique again. Tell me which one of the backgrounds is your favorite and
what you want me to make with them.
Bienvenidos

He oído
reinkers (Balmy Blue, Night of Navy, Basic Grey, Pool Party, Coastal Cabana y Pacific
of Navy), y los colores más claros (Coastal Cabana, Pool Party y Balmy Blue) at
Realmente me
Now that you have some new ideas hopefully – its time to
