Prepping a Midori for Traveling

Update: I added a supply list to the end of this post for anyone interested in what products I like to use. Please note, the Amazon links ARE affiliate links and if you chose to shop with me, I send you a big hug and thank you for supporting this blog. I linked a few non-affiliate links, also to finish up with list.

When we went to Oregon at the end of August, I brought along my first Midori Traveler's Notebook. I'm going to share what I packed and what I learned. For starters, it totally depends on the type of vacation you are going on. We typically take our three kids (currently 6, 4 and 2), so we are always moving and pretty active. That means, I keep it pretty simple. My goal is to WRITE IT DOWN! All the cute stories, things we did, funny things said go in my notebook. My second BIGGER PICTURE GOAL is to have something when I get back home to build on. It will become my mini-album of our vacation and I don't have to rewrite the journaling.

I ordered a standard Midori insert with blank pages. I downloaded the August Daisydori printable that Cocoa Daisy offers. Currently, I believe they only offer a high quality printed version in the standard size. (This might be the way to go, if you can get it in time for your trip!) See it here at the Cocoa Daisy website. Otherwise dip into your paper stash, cut some down to size and use that! I also brought along my favorite pen (currently a black Signo). Now, I also packed my August Take 10 Kit, stamps, ink, adhesive, scissors; aaaaand I used none of that. If you know you will have lots of downtime, go for it.

I printed the Daisydori and pasted pages right into my notebook, purposely leaving blank pages here and there for more photos.

I had these Mambi Sticks that were perfect! I packed those and did use them as as journaled, to mark what day it was.

I pre-stamped the second page to set up a quick summary page to help myself keep the days straight. This was a life saver.

We swam every afternoon, if I wasn't in the pool, I was sitting on the side writing.
If not then, I tried to catch-up in the evening. I always packed it, in case I had some time to write.

I had fun with doodling and different handwriting, to let something stand out. For instance, a great kid quote or the name of a place we visited.

I hope this helps and inspires you to pack a Traveler's notebook on your next trip! I love the size. It's perfect to on-the-go!
I'm still filling in the photos and when I'm done, I will share the final product. See these two posts for more process:

Oregon Midori Traveler's Notebook (Part 2)

I'm back with more work on my Oregon Trip Midori. I decided this will be my main album for this trip. I might also do a page or two my 2015 Project Life book of the highlights.

On my first pages, I used a photo of the coast and the calendar page from the August Cocoa Daisy DaisyDori to show the dates we were there. I used some watercolors behind the photo and embellishments from my August Take 10 Kit.

The next page was a pre-stamped page I made for recording the summary of each day. I was not able to journal every night, so this was a big help.

I used some fun cards from the kit. My photos were collaged with the picstich app and cut apart.

When journaling, I left a few spots for photos here and there.

Midori Traveler's Notebook with Scrapbook Supplies

Hi! Holly here! I'm so excited to share my first Midori Traveler's Notebook with you! I am loving the creative outlet it has given me. We just went on a family vacation to the Oregon Coast and I did a little prep to bring along a travel journal. I plan to share how I prepped (the night before departing!) in a post later this week here at www.paintedladiesjournal.com. So, if interested in that, be sure to follow me! (Instagram | Facebook)

We got back from our week long trip on August 25 and this last week, I've been adding watercolor, markers, stamps and embellishments using my August Take 10 Kit by The Studio 29 Designs, LLC.
I finally broke out the Michael's watercolor set that I bought.  I used a mix of markers and watercolor and my white Signo pen to create the waves. That little tiny sun is from the weather planner stamp set

I used my stash of past Take 10 Kit stamps throughout this journal. That ice cream cone was from the June Take 10 Kit (and still in the Studio 29 Designs shop here). I brushed on several layers of watercolor to make it opaque. "Life's short, so eat dessert first" is from the Foodie stamp set. It was so perfect in this journal spot about eating ice cream for lunch one day on the bay front. And I stamped "oh yeah" from the current August kit (Wonder Stamp Set) on white cardstock to layer above my ice cream cone.

This month's kit had a travel theme to it, which was perfect timing for me. When I saw the globes, planes and such, I knew I would be using them in this travel journal.

You can't tell by what I've shared that there is any room for photos, but there is! I plan on doing some pocket pages in a mini-album or maybe in my regular Project Life 2015 album; but I also want to add a few picture highlights to this travel journal also. That's the next phase!

This project is so much fun for me. I encourage you to do this on your next trip! I'll be sharing more details on how I set mine up to make it easy to complete.

Zoo Scavenger Hunt: Part 2

Last week, I shared page 1 of my 2-page Zoo Scavenger Hunt layout. I'm back to share the other side! Here they are together:

On the right side page, I used an orange and aqua theme. That polar bear pool was the inspiration for this color theme. Plus, it ties in with the aqua on the left page.

I thought that little cut apart tag looked like a clipboard and I stamped a little checklist on it ("Love it" x3) from that Foodie stamp in the shop. Another gold clip shows up in this layout. I just had to use the elephant clip on this zoo layout!

The whimsical arrow stamp is a fun one, which for this use I paired with the #favorite stamp from the same Wonder stamp set in the kit.

I used this month's television stamp set to give our zoo scavenger hunt a 5-star rating. I see lots uses for that particular stamp. (Books, movies, food in addition to TV shows!)

You can stop by at the previous post to download a free zoo scavenger hunt print out!

Thanks,
Holly

Zoo Scavenger Hunt: Part 1

I'm excited to share my first August Take 10 Kit layout. It's a bright and cheery kit this month. This is the left page of a two page layout. I'll be sharing the other half next week.

I went with a red and aqua theme on this page. Those alphas are left over from the June Take 10 Kit.

There were so many elements I really liked in this kit. The giant enamel dots are fun and the gold clips are awesome!!

Our summer bucket list included a homemade zoo scavenger hunt. I made a checklist with pictures and words of different animals and other fun items (like the train and popcorn cart!). I clipped them to our clipboards and supplied each with a crayon. They loved this activity. It gave us a whole new way to enjoy the zoo.

I'm happy to share my checklist with you. You can cross out any items that aren't applicable and still use it at your local zoo. Download printable Zoo Scavenger Hunt file HERE.  (Download tip: If a login dialog box appears and you don't have/want Dropbox, just close it. When printing, select Fit/fit to page.)
