Simple Moments in #LitteSummerJOY

#LittleSummerJOY with Take 10 Kits by Holly www.paintedladiesjournal.com

Lesson 5 of #LittleSummerJOY was a "simple" one for me to find lots of material for making journal entries. Last week, I used this same prompt to document my gardening adventure. This week, I am documenting some backyard water fun with the neighborhood school friends. These are the days of summer.

These are some of my favorite summer photos with good friends having some simple backyard water fun. I started out with my gelatos and put a light bit of color for the background.

And that's my favorite picture. All lined up against the fence, soaking wet and out of breath. I'm using my July Take 10 Kits, which included that fun gold foil arrow washi.

Below that, I attached a card from the July Take 10 Pocket Kit behind two action shots. I use the Picstitch App on my iPhone to make 4x6 photo collages that I print and cut apart at home.

I created my title with alpha stickers from the May Take 10 Kit.

These moms mean a lot to me. We get together for playdates after school during the winter months to keep the crazinesss away. So much fun to hang out with like minded mamas.

If you are also finishing up your #LittleSummerJOY project, you might any of the May, June or July Take 10 Kits. They all include fun summer elements that are great for this project!

Slowing Down

Slowing Down for the Simple Summer Things. Documenting #LIttleSummerJOY in a midori. Holly www.paintedladiesjournal.com

I have been catching up on entries in my #LittleSummerJOY midori project this week. I decided to divide the book up into six sections and fill it in when the mood strikes. There are six lessons (the last one just came out here). I allowed for 3 to 4 two-page spreads per session. Any left-over pages will go to #SummerBucketList items!

This spread goes with Lesson 5, (contributor is the awesome Bonita Rose) which was all about "Slowing Down" and enjoying the simple things of summer. The first thing that popped into my head was my gardening adventure this summer. Now, when I say gardening, I mean my planters and pots on my small back deck. See those gelatos?! I just got a few to try out and love them.

I used a few items from the July Take 10 Kits from Sara Mitchell Co. (some glam bags left here and pocket kits without stamp here) This morning, my youngest and I were alone (rare in the summer) so we headed up north to a wonderful garden center that I always ogle (safely) when driving by. We were surrounded by colorful lush options.

I used a stamp that was included in the July Take 10 Pocket Kit and my pink & purple gelatos to creat a pattern at the top of the right page and bottom of the left page. FUN! I just stamped it slightly wet and then brushed over it with a slightly wet paintbrush, then smudged some with my finger.

I used the rose pattern card from the July Take 10 Pocket Kit as a backdrop for the smaller photos and the gold foil arrow washi to accent both pages.

Traveler's Notebook Cover for #LittleSummerJOY

www.paintedladiesjournal.com

I think we are the last in the nation to still be in school....so I am just a wee bit ready to get a SUMMER BUCKET LIST moving right along. Is anyone still suffering along with me?? Our last day of school is today, June 21st!! The first day of summer!!!!

www.paintedladiesjournal.com
Have you heard about this fun FREE class hosted by Little Paper Products, called LittleSummerJOY? They did this amazing, inspirational class last summer, too and there were some very talented contributors. I can't wait to see who they have lined up this year! It is starting July 1, so go check it out. I was excited to get my June Take 10 Pocket Kit and Glam Bag because I just knew it would have some goodies to use for this project!! I kept a few items from my May Kit too (that flip flop card and "Summer Nights" wood veneer) that will fit well with this theme, too.

And the stamp "Summer Bucket List" is from the May Take 10 Pocket Kit, too.

I pasted the printable from Little Paper Projects into the first pages of my Traveler's Notebook and filled it in with all the fun things we want to do this summer. You need to go sign up for their newsletter to get this printable!

Follow along over on my blog for more on this project, as it progresses at www.paintedladiesjournal.com

Zoo Scavenger Hunt: Part 1

I'm excited to share my first August Take 10 Kit layout. It's a bright and cheery kit this month. This is the left page of a two page layout. I'll be sharing the other half next week.

I went with a red and aqua theme on this page. Those alphas are left over from the June Take 10 Kit.

There were so many elements I really liked in this kit. The giant enamel dots are fun and the gold clips are awesome!!

Our summer bucket list included a homemade zoo scavenger hunt. I made a checklist with pictures and words of different animals and other fun items (like the train and popcorn cart!). I clipped them to our clipboards and supplied each with a crayon. They loved this activity. It gave us a whole new way to enjoy the zoo.

I'm happy to share my checklist with you. You can cross out any items that aren't applicable and still use it at your local zoo. Download printable Zoo Scavenger Hunt file HERE.  (Download tip: If a login dialog box appears and you don't have/want Dropbox, just close it. When printing, select Fit/fit to page.)
